Blanket inspired by traditional motifs and rich colors, combines classic techniques with a bold, modern palette. Whether you’re a seasoned crocheter or just beginning your journey with granny squares, this project is a satisfying way to use up leftover yarn and create a stunning festive piece. Blanket consists of 77 squares.

Yarn: 100% acrylic, baby yarn, 100 g cca 260-300 m: white 100 g, yellow ombré 300 g, grey ombré 300 g, red 300 g

Dimensions: 140×200 cm

Other material: hook 4 – 4,5 mm, tapestry needle, scissors

Stitches (US terms)

ch – chain

ss – slip stitch

sc – single crochet

hdc – half double crochet

dc – double crochet

tr – triple crochet

COR1 – initial corner: 2 ch, 2 dc, 3 ch, 3 dc, corner in the row: 3 dc, 3 ch, 3 dc

COR2 – initial corner: 4 ch, 2 tr, 3 ch, 3 tr, corner in the row: 3tr, 3 ch, 3 tr

COR3 – initial corner: 2ch, dc, 2 ch, 2 dc, corner in the row: 2 dc, 2 ch, 2 dc

 

Square 1 – Classical Granny Square

Make 24 – 12x start with yellow, 12 x start with grey color

 Start with a magic ring or with 4ch closed in a circle

Row 1: (color A): 2 ch, 2 dc, 3 ch, 3 dc, 3 ch, 3 dc, 3 ch, 3 dc,

Row 2: (color B): (COR1, ch) x 4 join with a ss to the first dc. Ss to the corner space

Row 3: (color A): (COR1, ch, 3dc in every ch on side separated by a ch, ch) x 4, finish the row with a ss to the first dc. Ss to the corner space

Row 4: (color B) as row 3.

Row 5: (color A) as r. 3, finish the square with invisible join.

 

Square 2 – Round White Center

make 24 – 12x the 4th row with yellow, 12 x the 4th row  with grey color

Start with a magic ring or with 4ch closed in a ring

Row 1:(white): ch2, 11 dc, join with a ss to first dc. (12 dc)

Row 2: (white): ch 2, 2 dc in every stitch, join with a ss to first  dc. (24 dc)

Row 3: (white): ch 2, (2 dc, 1 dc) repeat over the row, join with a ss to first dc. (36 dc)

Row 4: (color A): /(COR2, ch), (skip 2, 3dc in next stitch, ch) x 2/ x 4, join with a ss to the first dc. Ss to the corner space

Row 5: (color B): (COR1, ch, 3dc in every ch space on side separated by a ch, ch) x 4, finish the square with an invisible join.

 

Square 3 – Square White Center

make 24 – 12x the 4th row with yellow, 12 x the 4th row  with grey color

Start with a magic ring or with 4ch closed in a ring.

Row 1: (white): 2 ch, 2 dc, 3 ch, 3 dc, 3 ch, 3 dc, 3 ch, 3 dc,

Row 2: (white): (COR3, dc in every dc on side) x 4, join with a ss to the first dc. Ss to the corner space

Row 3: (white): – as 2.r.

Row 4: (color A): /(COR3, ch), (skip 3, 3dc in next stitch, ch) x 2/ x 4, join with a ss to the first dc. Ss to the corner space

Row 5: (color B): (COR1, ch, 3dc in every ch space on side separated by a ch, ch) x 4, finish the square with invisible join.

Square 4 – yellow (make 5)

Start with a magic ring or with 4ch closed in a circle

Row 1: (yellow): 2 ch, 2 dc, 3 ch, 3 dc, 3 ch, 3 dc, 3 ch, 3 dc,

Row 2: (yellow): (COR3, dc in every dc on side) x 4, join with a ss to the first dc. Ss to the corner space

Row 3: (yellow): – as 2.r.

Row 4: (yellow) as 2.r.

Tow 5: (yellow) as 2.r. finish the square with invisible join.

 

 

 

Finishing

Place the squares flatly as you wish to have them in the blanket. You may block them if you wish.

Sew or crochet them together in one direction and then in the other direction.

I crocheted them together with red yarn according to this publicly presented video.

Edge

Row 1:(red): sc to every stitch, (sc, 2 ch, sc) to the corners

Row 2: (grey) : dc to every stitch, COR3 to the corners

Row 3: (gray): (sc, ch, skip 1,  sc, ch, skip 1) repeat round the blanket, (sc, ch2, sc) in the corner

Row 4: (gray): sc are crocheted into free stitches of row 2. over the sc from previous row. (sc, ch, skip 1,  sc, ch, skip 1) repeat round the blanket, (sc, ch2, sc) in the corner.

 

Finish with invisible join.
