Straight pattern
Section I – Ombre ball, solid pattern
Row 1: Ch 3. In the first chain, crochet: 1 double crochet (dc), chain 1, 2 double crochets (dc).
Row 2: Ch 3, 1 dc into the second dc, chain 1, edge stitch. Turn. (2 stitches in the body)
Row 3: Ch 3, edge stitch, chain 1 above the space, dc to the end of the row, work 2 dc into the 3rd chain of the previous row. Turn. (3 stitches in the body – increased by 1)
Row 4: Into the first dc: ch 3 + 2 dc, then dc to the last dc of the body, chain 1, edge stitch. Turn. (5 stitches in the – increased by 2)
Row 5: Ch 3, edge stitch, chain 1 above the space, dc to the end of the row, 2 dc into the 3rd chain of the previous row. Turn. (6 stitches in the body – increased by 1)
Row 6: Repeat Row 4. (8 stitches in the body)
Row 7: Repeat Row 5. (9 stitches in the body)
Section II – Rows 8 to 58
Alternating unicolor ball (openwork pattern) and ombre ball (solid pattern) every 2 rows
Row 8 (unicolor): Into the 1st dc: ch 3 + 2 dc, skip 1 stitch, V-stitch, skip 2 stitches, repeat once, V-stitch, skip 1, dc, dc, ch 1, edge stitch.
Row 9 (unicolor): Ch 3, edge stitch, ch 1 above the space, 2 dc, then work V-stitches across from V-stitch to V-stitch. At the end: skip 1 dc, V-stitch into the second dc, dc into the 3rd chain of the previous row.
Row 10 (ombre): Into the 1st dc: ch 3 + 2 dc, dc into each stitch of the body, ch over ch space, edge stitch. (Added 2 stitches — 14 dc in the body)
Row 11 (ombre): Same as Row 5. (15 dc in the body)
Rows 12 to 55: Repeat Rows 8 to 11 a total of 12 times
Rows 56 to 58: Repeat Rows 8 to 10.
Section III – Rows 60 to 114 Ombre ball
Alternating: 1 openwork row, 1 solid row
Row 59 (openwork): Ch 3, edge stitch, ch 1 above the ch space, skip 1, V-stitch, then (skip 2, V-stitch) repeat to end of the row. Add 1 stitch at the end. Turn.
Row 60 (solid): as row 10
Rows 61 to 114: Alternate Row 59 (perforated) and Row 60 (solid) for a total of 27 repeats. (170 stitches in the body at the end of Row 114)
Wavy Pattern
Start crocheting on the side with the decorative edge! Make sure to add 2 stitches at each end of even rows and 1 stitch at the beginning of odd rows
Section IV – Rows 115 to 129
Ombre ball – Alternating 1 openwork row, 1 solid row
Row 115 (ombre, openwork): ch 3, edge, ch over ch, pattern: 2 dc, (V stitch, skip 2) × 5, (V stitch, skip 3) × 2, (V stitch, skip 2) × 5, (V stitch, skip 1) × 2, repeat until the end of the row. Add 1 dc to the last dc at the end of the row (so there will be 2 dc in the last dc).
