Instructions
Begin crocheting from the center of the wrap. Turn your work at the end of each row unless otherwise stated. A decorative edge is worked on one side – on the same side where the stitches are reduced. Stitches are reduced alternately by 1 and 2 stitches. Note: chains count as stitches.
Section 1 – Central Circle Strip (Unicolor Dark Blue Yarn)
Crochet 16 connected circles.
First Circle:
Round 1: Ch 4, join into a ring. 12 sc into the ring. Join with a slip stitch (ss) to the first sc.
Round 2: Ch 4 (counts as dc + ch), (dc, ch) into each of the next 11 sc. Join with a ss into the first ch space.
Round 3: Work 3 sc into each ch space; skip the dc between. Join with an invisible join.
Second and following circles:
In the last round of sc, connect each new circle to the previous one at the 18th sc. Weave in yarn ends.
Section 2 – Wings
Rows 1-4 using the dark blue yarn.
Row 1: Foundation Row: Take the strip of connected circles. Join the yarn to the outermost loop of the strip.
Ch 4, dc into the next circle loop, ch 3, 3 dc into the 3 central sc of the circle, (ch 3, dc2tog – one leg into the 4th sc down in the current circle, the other into the next circle – mirrored), ch 3, 3 sc into the 3 central sc-s of the next circle, repeat to end. Finish the row with 3 sc. Turn.
Row 2: Ch 3, E (worked into the first sc), ch 1, skip 2 sc, dc across all stitches. Final dc goes into the 4th ch of the previous row.
Row 3: Ch 3, 2 dc, (ch 2, skip 2, 3 dc) – repeat to last 2 body stitches, dc2tog. Ch 1, skip the ch below, E, turn.
Row 4: Ch 3, E, ch 1, dc3tog, then repeat:
(ch 2, dc3tog with legs in dc, ch-space, and next dc; ch 2, dc over middle dc of 3-dc group below). End with dc into last 2 dc, cut the yarn.
Continue with the cake yarn. Divide the cake yarn into two equal parts. Use the first half to crochet the right wing and the second half for the left wing. Start one wing by pulling yarn from outer part (the small one), second wing by pulling the yarn from the center of the cake.
Row 5: Ch 3, dc into each stitch except any dc2tog below. Into last 2 stitches: dc2tog, ch 1, E.
Row 6: E, ch 1, dc3tog, dc to every stitch,
Row 7: Ch 3, dc, (ch 1, skip 2, 3 dc between 2nd and 3rd dc; ch 1, skip 2, dc) – repeat to last 3 stitches of the body, dc, dc2tog, ch, E
Row 8: Ch 3, E, ch, dc3tog, dc, (ch 2, skip 3-dc group, 3 dc) – repeat to end of row, make last dc to 3rd ch of previous row
Row 9: Ch 3, dc, (ch 2, dc3tog with legs in dc, ch-space, and next dc; ch 2, dc over middle dc of 3-dc group below) repeat to last 2 stitches of the body, dc2tog to last 2 stitches, ch, E.
Row 10: Ch 3, E, ch, dc3tog, dc to all following stitches. Work las dc to 3rd ch of previous row.
Row 11: Ch 3, dc to all stitches except of 2 last stitches, dc2tog to last 2 stitches, ch, E.
Row 12: ch 3, E, ch, dc3tog, skip 2, 3 dc between stiches, (ch 1, skip 2, dc, ch1 skip 2, 3 dc between stitches) – repeat to last 3 stitches of the body, ch, 2 dc, dc to the 3rd ch of previous row
Row 13: ch 3, 2 dc, (ch 2, skip 3-dc group, 3 dc) – repeat to end of row, dc2og o the last 2 stitches of the body. Ch, E
Row 14: Ch 3, E, ch, dc3tog, then repeat:
(dc over middle dc of 3-dc group below, ch 2, dc3tog with legs in dc, ch-space, and next dc; ch 2). End with dc into last dc and ino 3rd ch of previous row.
Repeat Rows 5–14 until only the E edge remains.
Reduce the body stitches: by 2 stitches in even rows and 1 stitch in odd rows.
The final rows are worked as plain dc rows.
Cut the yarn and repeat the same instructions for the opposite wing using the second half of the cake yarn (starting from the center of the ball).
Finishing
Weave in the ends and add tassels to corners.
